Mississippi Drake conversion musket, nice original brown barrel with bayonet

Mississippi Drake conversion musket, nice original brown barrel with bayonet

$3,450.00

Nice 1850 Dated Robbins and Lawerence Mississippi drake conversion. Lock and breech of barrel each display 1850 date. Two nice cartouches on stock. Conversion number 415 on barrel and 7416 on buttplate. This was a conversion for the 51st Mass and about 1800 were converted. The barrel displays about 85% original brown finish. It has the replaced front sight for bayonet attachment and the leaf rear sight as is correct for this conversion. The buttplate has the remains of MASS with only the SS remaining. It remains in 54 caliber and not converted to 58. The rare bayonet is included.

This unit was responsible for guarding all the Confederate prisoners after Gettysburg and had a small engagement in No. Virginia. Nice original, unmeshed with gun that will fill a void in any Mississippi or Civil War collection.
